A CHINESE EMBROIDERED DAOIST PRIEST’S BLUE SILK ROBE OF DESCENT, JIANGYI
Qing Dynasty, 19th century
Cut as a typical ceremonial daoist vestment in form of a cape with a front opening, worked on a light-blue ground with scattered blossoms and butterfiles, a dragon in gilt thread on the back beneath the collar, the black borders adorned with bats, stylised clouds, trigrams, flowerheads and stylised roundels.

Provenance: the Claudio Perino Collection, Turin, acquired mostly in Japan in early 2000s.
