A CHINESE EMBROIDERED WEDDING ‘DRAGON’ RED SILK ROBE
Qing Dynasty, 19th century
Worked in silk and gilt thread with ten gold dragons, each in pursuit of a pearl of wisdom, above stylised waves concealing treasures and crashing against a rock, with little boys, bats and
ruyi
clouds scattered between the beasts, all on a geometric ground of
ruyi
heads.

Provenance: the Claudio Perino Collection, Turin, acquired mostly in Japan in early 2000s.
Exhibited: MAO Museo d'Arte Orientale, Turin, featured in an exhibition
