TA 5% Vat. TANI BUNCHŌ (1763 — 1841) Wagtail Edo period, 18th/19th century A Japanese hanging scroll painting, kakejiku , ink on silk, painted with a delicate bird perched atop a small rock on the shoreline, sparely surrounded by slender reeds, signed Bunchō, sealed Bunchō to the lower right. Image 35cm x 49cm; total 128cm x 51cm Provenance: the Claudio Perino Collection, Turin, acquired mostly in Japan in early 2000s. Though Bunchō is best known for his idealised landscapes in the literati style, this work reflects his eclectic influences and mastery of various different styles.
