KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI (1760 — 1849), YANAGAWA SHIGENOBU (1787 — 1832) Edo period, 19th century Five woodblock prints on Japanese paper, washi , in kokonotsugiri-ban (one ninth of Oban ) from the untitled Tokaido series, including Numazu, Hakone, Kanbara, Yui and Kane, each signed Gakyojin Hokusai ga , a later edition of the privately commissioned 1804 series originally published for a poetry club, later released commercially with involvement of Yanagawa Shigenobu designs, all mounted together. Each 12.5cm x 17cm (5) Provenance: the Claudio Perino Collection, Turin, acquired mostly in Japan in early 2000s. Exhibited: MAO Museo d'Arte Orientale, Turin.
