清中期 白玉帶皮"老子出關圖"山子 Well carved in varying layers of depth with a craggy mountainscape, the front depicting Laozi riding on buffalo accompanied by boy strolling in a rocky landscape amidst pine trees, above the rocks, a small pavilion is depicted, the reverse carved with craggy rock formations, the stone is of white tone with russet inclusions and skin, the reverse with mottled gray and russet tone. Qing Dynasty period. Height: 4 3/8 in (11.1 cm) Width: 6 1/2 in (16.5 cm) Provenance: Private collection of Allen Chong, Yorba Linda, California 此件作品選用一整塊橢圓形山形白玉，雕刻以老子出關為題材。據史載，老子修道德之學，崇尚隱遁無名之道。在周朝久居，目睹其衰敗，遂決意離去。行至函谷關，關令尹攔住老子，曰:「子將隱矣，請為我著述。」老子於是撰寫《道德經》上下篇，約五千餘言，闡述道德之意，隨後隱去，行蹤無人得知。 此玉山雕刻即展現老子乘青牛行至函谷關時，關令尹於牛車前喜迎請教的場景。作品以山石雕琢皴法呈現，蒼松挺立於山間，小路蜿蜒盤曲而上，直至雄偉的函谷關，層層景物分明，近遠有序，充滿文人筆墨「畫意」，深具藝術與文化內涵。
